Use the wrap as you would use any other food storage material; wrap it directly around half cut fruits or vegetables. To cover a bowl of leftovers. Wrap it around the bread or the cheese. Make small bags to bring any food on the go.
The wraps maintain the natural crunch and freshness, keeping the food alive as a natural skin around it.
We source the GOTS organic cotton mainly from Spain and Denmark, but occationally we might get it from another European country.
The coloured and stamped fabrics are all subject to availability at our fabric providers and we will continuously add new colours and stamped fabrics. Each pack is a different mix of colours and patterns. Feed back from our customers; "it is practical with the different colors making it easier to remember which food is wrapped in which color".
We cut the fabric by hand, so the borders of the wraps might not be all that straight, but with a handmade touch!
Organic fabric has been treated differently than conventional fabric, the weaving runs are smaller and there may be more imperfections in the fabric. The fabric is always used using low-impact scouring agents and finishing techniques to support eco-friendly processing.
Organic bees wax: is a natural and antibacterial wax with high melting temperature. We use local organic bees wax normally from different areas in Spain or ocationally from Denmark, depending on which bee producer has exceed beeswax. If you see small spots of unmelted wax on the wraps, don't worry - it is due to unmelted small wax spots.
Quote: “Beeswax is produced from glands in the abdomens of bees. The wax is produced by young bees, chewed and mixed with bee saliva and other enzymes. After the bee chews and processes the wax, it attaches it to the honeycomb, where pollen is stored. The wax also helps safely store honey produced by the bees, and it can help protect the hive from infections and other unwanted contaminants. Like honey, beeswax has antibacterial properties”.
Pine tree resin: The pine tree resin is antibacterial and has an even higher melting point than bees wax adding the extra ability for the wrap to stick together. We normally use pine tree resin from the Segovia area, Spain or we tap the pine trees from our farm on the island Fyn in Denmark. It you see small dark spots on the wrap, don't worry - it is because we use the natural and most raw version of tree resin.
Quote: “Resin seals over wounds, and this protects the plant from pests and infections. Resins contain antimicrobial properties that help prevent decay and fungal infections, and resins also seem to decrease water loss”.
Almond oil or Olive oil: we use organic sweet almond oil to make the wrap more soft and mouldable. Should you, for some reason need another oil than almond oil, please contact us and we can make a customized wrap using organic virgin olive oil.
When you receive the wrap you will notice the mixed smell of the natural ingredients of the coating with the pine tree resin as the strongest. We all love that smell, which will, however, slowly disappear when you start using the wrap and will not interfere with the smell and taste of the food.
To give you an idea about the sizes of the wraps, here are some examples on how we use them:
The Small Wrap (20 x 20 cm) for half an avocado, apple or red pepper. We use it to wrap over a small ceramic/glass bowl or teacup and made into a small bag to use for nuts, seeds, dried fruits, vegetables to bring on the go. We make small bags for nuts, dried fruits, snacks etc.
The Medium Wrap (30 x 30 cm) could be for half a lettuce or pumpkin. We use it on medium ceramic/glass bowls and to wrap around two bread-roll sandwiches to go.
The Large Wrap (35 x 40 cm) is great to wrap around a whole bread, to fold into a bag for a baguette or to keep a bunch of carrots or celeries. We also use it to cover large ceramic/glass bowls for a rising dough and we use it a lot to bring various toastbread-sized sandwiches for a picnic.
